DIY Police Hat for Preschool Pretend Play and Learning
Blue, yellow, gray or black felt.ScissorsRuler (optional)Needle and thread.
Directions to make the police hat costume headband:
2. Assemble the pieces in the places you want. Pin in place.
3. Using a straight stitch, attach the police hat features to the main headband piece. For the hat’s brim, leave space at either side open, so that it will stick out when the child wears it. This is the step where I let my preschool sew. I get the needle started and hand the project over. He puts the needle down, pulls it through, and back up again. This is patterning and real life math. Learning how to sew is also a life skill!
4. Set the completed police hat around your child’s head to measure. Sew the ends together so that it will fit around the top of their head.
5. Wear and act out parts of the stories!
