I’m always looking for ways to merge my daughters’ love for the iPad with learning. So I was glad when Zap Zap Math asked me to review their new kindergarten math app. My youngest daughter is going into kindergarten this year and she really needs educational activities that keep her engaged. We usually go for hands-on games and activities, but one of the few ways that I am able to keep her calm (she has special needs) is with a bit of tech time. While it would be bad for her to sit for hours and zone out watching videos, the Zap Zap Kindergarten Math app is a good way to work on math skills that she will be working on soon.
What is included in Zap Zap Math Kindergarten?
There are three skill areas included in the app.
- Number Recognition
- Addition and Subtraction
- Shapes and Measurement
The activities are set up to increase in difficulty as a child masters a skill, so there is no worry about my daughter getting frustrated with random subtraction problems being thrown in while she is still working on learning her numbers.
But, since I know my daughter very well, I know that she will move all over the app to explore. Which is fine because it gives her exposure to topics and each topic starts with the easiest skill so that with exposure she will begin to learn more.
It is easy enough for her to navigate on her own which allows her to feel more independent even when I am tracking her learning progress.
Yearly Subscription for Skill Tracking
You can also subscribe to their yearly plan on the Zap Zap Math website. You can subscribe to the full app which covers grades K-6. The dashboard shows you how far the students have worked and shows you what standards they have met (if you choose to track that.)
