My kids love hands-on activities. In fact, they have a seriously hard time sitting still to do school and homework. Since my eldest doesn’t like to use songs to memorize her math facts, she’s struggled to remember them all. I came up with this fun multiplication game for kids to help her learn her math facts in a hands-on, super-fun way!
MATERIALS NEEDED FOR THE MULTIPLICATION GAME FOR KIDS
- Plastic cups
- Foam, felt, or magnetic numbers
- 1 letter X
This game is super-easy to set up. All you need is some plastic cups and some numbers and letters. We used felt numbers, because that is what we had. We also used a foam X for the multiplication sign.
You can also use dice to make this even more game-like. Whatever number the kids roll, they must multiply together!
The goal of our game was to answer the multiplication problem correctly, stacking up the correct number of cups without the stack falling over as quickly as possible. We tried to see if the kids could make thier stacks and answer the problem correctly within 30 seconds.
It was definitely a challenge to stack up that many cups so quickly! We played our game on the floor, but you could also do this challenge on a table.
Even little sister got in on the action. She loved knocking down the towers after Monkey built them. She also liked collecting and stacking the cups, although she didn’t know why she was stacking them.
We completed all multiplication facts up to 12X12 (we skipped the zeros because stacks of zero are boring).
The kids will definitely remember their multiplication facts better after this game! Now, every time we do math, my kids want to use cups. But they no longer hate doing multiplication!
