It seems fitting that the day after I post a giveaway for gift basket designed for rainy days, that it rains and we couldn’t go outside today.
It was actually one of those freak-the-kids-out kind of storms, so I decided to pull out an activity that I was planning to do next week just to get them to calm down.
Next week, Jaida is going to be studying oceans, so we made an ocean life sensory bin without water. The without water part was important because lately our sensory bins have gotten a little bit out-of-hand with Shiloh climbing into them and throwing things out while her older sisters are trying to play.
That, and for some reason I can’t find any cheap-o ocean figurines here at the moment. So I made an ocean printable set. You can get a sample of the ocean scenery set below.
It took me a while to think of the sensory medium for this bin, but finally settled on blue tissue paper and chunks of blue felt. They made perfect water.
I also added some fine-motor elements to the bin by adding some ocean themed beads and a couple threading animals that we had.
Toss in a little bit of green tissue paper and you have some lovely seaweed.
The girls had fun creating their underwater world.
I hope you will enjoy creating your own ocean life sensory bin! This set can also be used with play dough like my many other scenery sets.
