Paper Straw Obstacle Course for Winter

This was just fun. No other motives. Just a lot of fun! We made this paper straw obstacle course for a fun family challenge and it’s a super silly way to get all of the family involved no matter the age or ability. That made it perfect for us!

A few straws, pom poms and Christmas Village decorations are all you need to create a super fun paper straw obstacle course for your family!

Materials for the Paper Straw Obstacle Course:

Paper straws (of course)

Small pom poms

Miniatures from a Christmas Village

1 Pipe Cleaner

Flat surface

All that I did to set up this activity was to scatter the Christmas village trees all over our foam board. You could potentially do this on a table, but my hubby made me a farmhouse table and it has lots of groves (that look awesome), but totally wouldn’t work for this.

Then, at the far end of the foam board, I laid a pipe cleaner as the finish line.

To play:

Each person gets a straw (we don’t share) and takes turns blowing their pom pom through the obstacle course.

Like skiing. With a pom pom.

To add to the fun you can have challenges by having two people blow their pom poms at the same time and see who reaches the finish line first.

Or use a timer to see who has the fastest time.

Or have multiple people take turns doing one puff in the straw at a time. Try to knock the other players’ pom poms off course while you make your way to the finish line.

Whatever you do, just have fun. Because not everything has to have a rational purpose. Some things really are just meant to be silly!

Change up the paper straw obstacle course!

Can you add a ramp? A sand trap?

A hill?

Does it work better if you use a shorter straw? Fatter? smaller?

Ok, so maybe you can work some school in there… just don’t tell the kids!
