Want your kids to learn about art, but your painting skills are a tad rusty? For the creative personality that dwells within me, I love to create things, but I’m not great at teaching specific art skills. Acrylics, contouring, watercolors, are just not things that I’m great at using. But I do want my kids to have the opportunity to see if it is something they are interested in. We loved creating these Venetian Masks for kids that we received in our Smart Art Box. I’m glad that I got the opportunity to receive a free box and review them for you. In short, we’ll be signing up because the kids loved it SO much!
Materials needed for creating Venetian Masks for Kids:
February Smart Art Box (If you miss out on the February box, I share what you need below)
Water for rinsing brushes
Paper towel for getting rid of excess water
I always like to try out new activities for my kids. Especially activities that don’t require me to do a lot of prep work. The Smart Art subscription box came with almost everything we needed. Including instructions.
What was included in the Smart Art box -Venetian Masks for Kids:
Set of Six Acrylic Gouache
2 High-quality Paint Brushes
Creative Mark Ultimate Glitter Glue
2 Venetian Masks
We added in a paint palette that we had in our craft supplies. My preschooler was very drawn to the glitter glue. I think she would cover the world in glitter if possible.
I think the best thing about the box is that although all the supplies are provided and detailed instructions for how to create the mask are included, it still allows for each child to create their own design.
This process art activity provides kids with the materials they need and inspiration but it is not a “copy me” kind of project.
Each child is encouraged to use their imagination to create a Venetian Mask unique to them.
Detailed instructions are included along with some art history of what a Venetian Mask was and when they were popularly used.
Each child sketched out their design as suggested in the instructions.
Then they painted them with the included Acrylic Gouache.
My older kids chose not to use the glitter glue, but we did try it later. It’s a very easy to squeeze bottle that allows you to get detailed designs unlike most glitter glues.
We loved our Smart Art Box and will definitely be getting more in the future! If you are like us and want to include specific art techniques in your learning, but don’t know how, I highly recommend the Smart Art Subscription! Save yourself the time and headache of finding all pieces at the craft store (and get higher quality tools) and get it delivered straight to your door.
You can also purchase past boxes without a subscription. Some of the current choices include: acrylic paints, Chinese calligraphy, oil painting, Spanish fans, and clay sculpting.
