Have you fallen in love with interactive notebooks? We have! I love the hands-on nature of the activities that involve so much more of the brain than a plain worksheet. This free printable CVC Word interactive notebook for kindergarten is a great way to work on CVC words and rhyming in your literacy time. Or send it home with your students this summer for a fun summer review!
We have fallen in love with interactive notebooks over the last few years. When my 3rd daughter started school, I couldn’t get her to do anything that even resembled a worksheet, so we had to get creative.
That is actually why I started Life Over C’s.
We lived in Eastern Europe at the time and it wasn’t exactly possible to run to the nearest teacher store and buy a bunch of fun games to play.
We needed learning activities that were more hands-on than what a worksheet could offer. Because worksheets were causing her to get angry and frustrated. (We later discovered that she has severe ADHD and anxiety and seeing all the information on one piece of paper was just too much.)
So we added games, hands-on activities and interactive notebooks to our homeschool routine.
We started with counting interactive notebooks, then the alphabet and today I want to share this free printable CVC word rhyming interactive notebook for kindergarten with you!
If you haven’t seen them yet, you will want to check out these new interactive notebooks. They are made just for interactive notebooking.
I love how every piece of these notebooks is designed with interactive notebooking activities in mind. Starting with the plastic cover where the kids can label their notebook, so you can easily see which notebook belongs to which kid.
Super important since kids are not usually the most organized people in the world.
And you know those days when you get started on an interactive notebooking activity and the kids are having all sorts of fun cutting their pieces apart and then…
Time runs out.
Or there is a fire drill.
Or some other unplanned thing that means you don’t have time to complete the activity. And you’re stuck trying to sort out all the little pieces and figure out how to store them until the next day.
These special interactive notebooks have pockets designed just for those occasions. So you can come inside after your fire drill and have the kids store the pieces inside the pockets for safekeeping.
No one loses their mind because pieces are missing the next day.
A definite win.
And one of the most important pieces of any interactive notebook is the table of contents.
It helps the kids find their activities later on and saves you from wondering if you actually did an activity. (Not that you would ever forget such a thing…)
For this CVC Word rhyming interactive notebook printable, I included table of contents labels for the kids to use. You could also model the activity name for the kids to copy, but using the labels means that kids can spend more time on the learning portion of the activity.

To assemble the CVC Word interactive notebook, simply cut out the activities and paste them into the notebook. The larger activities are printed one to a page, so you can do them separately.
Then, there are also two smaller activities included for each word family that can be accomplished quickly and fit at the bottom of the pages below the two larger activities.
Because sometimes it can be hard to figure out what the super cute clip art is for an activity, I’ve included activities that make it easy to figure out the words.
The kids match pictures to the CVC words. This a great way to assess their reading skills and makes a great review activity.
Then they can color rhyming words.
On the second page, they will sort rhyming words and words that don’t rhyme.
And at the bottom they can practice their handwriting skills by independently writing short vowel words under the picture flaps.
Each set has two full pages of CVC short vowel and rhyming word activities for your kindergarten phonics lessons.
