Regardless of which state (or country) your preschooler lives, most know what a flower looks like. Areas all over the world grow flowers of all different colors and shapes. A flower can be universally identified, which makes the letter F flower craft perfect for our kiddos.
Our mini gardeners will not only learn about the letter F, but they can also learn some great science concepts. This letter craft can fit in perfectly with our flower and tree lesson plans for preschool. Let’s talk about the benefits your preschooler will be working on creating a beautiful flower with this uppercase letter F craft. We aren’t just talking about coloring and cutting (although fine motor skills are super important). Look at the list below to see what other skills and objectives are super important for our kids.
Fine Motor Skills: When you think about fine motor skills, this includes pinching a pencil to write, tying shoes, and using a fork to eat with. How to Make the Letter F Craft:
Step One:
First decide if you want your child to use the colored F is for Flower craft template or the black/white template. After printing, cut out the project pieces. If you are working on fine motor skills, you can give your child an opportunity to do their own cutting.
Step Two:
If using the black and white letter f craft template, this would be a good opportunity to color the letter ‘F’ pieces.
Step Three:
Glue the pieces together to resemble the picture below. Tape can also be used if glue is not available. Display and enjoy!

- Work on even more gross motor skills by using Q-tips to add glue onto the letter F craft. Children will practice pinching and grasping the small Q-tip and spreading it in the appropriate places.
- Let children take real stems, leaves, and petals from a nature walk. They can use these items to help identify parts of the flower.

What’s better, liquid glue or a glue stick?
To be honest, both would work just fine. If you want to avoid a bit of a mess, a glue stick may be your choice. However you can also use tools like q-tips or popsicle sticks to spread liquid glue onto the template. Glue dots are also a great choice for less mess and quick clean up. Don’t have any glue? No problem. Tape works just fine too.
How does this craft help with letter recognition?
Most children rely on visuals in order to learn and understand concepts better. Visual learners will connect the shape of the F and the sound along with an image (the flower) into their memory.
What other ways can my preschooler make this craft their own?
One of the best parts of flowers is the lovely smell they produce. Why not take a familiar or pleasant smell (vanilla, perfume, peppermint) and spray some of the sent on the flower template. You can even use cotton balls on the flower to keep the smell in longer.
