While they may not be a favorite of our furry, four legged friends, fireworks sure can be a joy to watch. The vibrant colors, the fizzling sounds, the grand finale! Watching fire works during a celebration can be a great experience for all ages, young and old.
Our fireworks toilet paper roll process art project brings the joy of fireworks to life, without the noise of course. I love that it requires simple materials that you probably already having lying around.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PRODUCT VS PROCESS ART? PROCESS BASED ART FOCUSES ON THE STEPS IT TAKES TO MAKE THE ART. PRODUCT ART IS MAINLY ABOUT THE FINISHED PRODUCT, NOT HOW IT’S MADE.
Art for kids can be a therapeutic process as well as help children celebrate their hard work and imagination.
The fun firework art for kids uses toilet paper roll art. What a great way to recycle and reuse materials already found in your house!
In addition to learning about art made from toilet paper rolls, you can pose additional questions to young learners:
- What would be different if I used paper towel rolls instead of toilet paper rolls?
- What other colors could I use for fireworks?
- What are the step by step instructions that you followed to make the 4th of July art?
- What other process art ideas could you use to make 4th of July art projects?

Why Is It Important For Kids To Learn About Art?
Children are naturally curious about everything around them. Learning about the art can help them understand and appreciate the world a little bit better.
Spreading Creativity
When young children take a chance and create a masterpiece, like the firework art preschool project, they can gain confidence in their abilities. When children are confident, they are more likely to continue experimenting with art.
Understand Patterns
There are many examples of patterns throughout our lives. Clothing designs, architecture, and seasons are just a few. Help your child identify the patterns in the art work they see around them.
Connect with Nature
The more children know and understand about the natural world, the more they will connect and understand to natural surroundings. Find art outside with tree bark, seashells, and butterflies.
Math in Art
Art contains many math concepts that children can learn about. Patterns, geometry, and coloring sorts are just to name a few.

How To Make the Toilet Paper Roll Fireworks
Step One:
Make even cuts about halfway up the toilet paper roll all around the bottom of the roll.
Gently push the cuts outward until they lay almost flat on a surface.
Repeat this step on another toilet paper roll.

Step Two:
Pour craft paint on a paper plate in a circle. Use a paintbrush to evenly distribute the paint.
Dip the toilet paper roll into the paint. To make sure all of the strips are covered, use the end of a paintbrush to gently press down into the paint. Continue this step until the strips are evenly covered.

Step Three:
Gently press the painted toilet paper roll down onto the white cardstock. Again, to make sure the roll prints well onto the page, use the end of the paintbrush to press each strip down onto the paper.
Gently lift the toilet paper roll off of the page and set aside. Pour desired amount of glitter onto the wet paint. Shake off and dispose of excess glitter.

Step Four:
Repeat the steps above for the other paint color and the other toilet paper roll. Create the desired amount of fireworks on the white cardstock paper.
Set aside to dry. Display!
