25 Farm Books for Kids
One of the first things that we teach our kids is the names of animals and this collection of books is perfect for fostering even more interest as they grow. These 25 Farm Animal books for kids are perfect for preschoolers and kindergarteners who are learning more about animals, where they live and how they grow.

25+ Farm Books for Kids
When choosing farm books for children there are some key things to keep in mind:
- Is the content age-appropriate?
- Am I looking for a read aloud or an independent reading book (on the child’s reading level)?
- Are there clear and simple images accompanying the text?
- Am I selecting this with a trauma-informed mind?
- Will this book require or benefit from a deeper conversation with the children to discuss the content?
While older elementary aged children may be ready for a book such as Charlotte’s Web that focuses on life cycles and death of animals, younger preschoolers and kindergarteners may not be prepared for those topics. It is important to keep each child within the group in mind when selecting appropriate content.
I have taken to the time to review and select farm theme books for toddlers, preschoolers and kindergarten that I believe are perfect for the majority of kids in any setting, but please take the time to read through each book before reading aloud to your class, child or giving the book to the child to read.
Reading through the book will also help you pull pieces out of the text for discussion, hard words that may need explanations, and a review of sequencing, setting and characters to aid in your reading time.
Farm Books for Toddlers
For toddlers, books should have clear pictures on a plain background that provide a good amount of contrast. Because their eyesight is still developing, it is easier for them to focus on a single image rather than a full panorama or background.
Each page should include minimal text, with short, simple sentences that allow kids to connect the text to the pictures. Toddler farm books are a great way to introduce toddlers to turning pages, scanning pictures, and talking about the content of the books. And making farm animal noises, of course!
Indestructible Farm Books for Toddlers
Indestructibles® books have rip-proof and waterproof pages for toddlers and babies that limit the damage that young children can do to a book. They are also washable, so when your toddlers, inevitably chew on the books you can sanitize them easily with any issues.
We do find that the books can wrinkle easily when wet, so we recommend hand-washing and air drying for best results.
