Why Should I Cook With My Kids?
There are so many benefits to letting kids help out in the kitchen. Whether you have a preschooler or high school student, there are opportunities for kids of all ages to get involved in the kitchen!
- There are plenty of math and reading skills to be practiced when cooking! Counting, measuring, and following directions are all important skills in the kitchen.
- Cooking together is a wonderful family bonding activity!
- Stirring, scooping, sprinkling, and drizzling are all wonderful exercise for fine motor skills!
- Cooking promotes creativity and problem solving!
- Some children find cooking to be a relaxing and stress relieving activity!

How to Make Marshmallow Pops for New Years Eve:
Supplies:
- 24 regular-size marshmallows
- White candy melts, white melting chocolate, or vanilla flavored almond bark
- Assorted sprinkles in silver and gold
- Bamboo Skewers, Treat Sticks, or Lollipop Sticks
- Piping Bags

Instructions:
To make this delicious snack, first line a baking sheet with waxed paper.

Press four marshmallows onto a skewer or treat stick. If you push and use a twisting motion at the same time, the marshmallows tend to go on easier.
Place the skewers with the marshmallows onto the wax paper.

Melt white candy according to package directions. Be sure not to overheat the candy because if the candy gets too hot, it will seize!
If you find that the candy is too thick to pour, add 1 teaspoon of vegetable shortening or coconut oil. This will thin out the melted candy and make it easier to pour!
Hold the skewer with the marshmallows over the bowl as you pour the melted candy over the marshmallows (using a spoon or rubber spatula), allowing the excess to drop back into the bowl.

Place the skewer back onto the wax paper and allow the candy to cool and harden on the marshmallows.
How To Decorate The Marshmallow Pops:
Now comes the best part! The decorating! Pouring the white, melted candy over the marshmallows makes a beautiful blank canvas ready to be decorated with melted candy drizzle and sprinkles!

Transfer the remaining melted candy to piping bags. Snip the corner from the piping bags and drizzle the candy melts over the marshmallows.
While the candy is still wet, add sprinkles!

Allow the marshmallows to rest on waxed paper until set before packaging or serving.
To make for easy removal, cut along the edges of the marshmallow where the excess melted candy is with a knife.
This party treat is best stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator!
Other Ideas For Marshmallow Pops:
While I love finding great New Years Eve food ideas, I love it even more when I find a crowd pleasing treat that can be made year round! This marshmallow pop treat is perfect for any occasion with just a few small modifications!
- Having a baby shower? Change the silver and gold colored sprinkles to pink, blue, or another color that matches the theme of the baby shower!
- For a sweet and salty treat, crush up pretzels and sprinkle them onto the melted candy!
- Use colored candy melts for a colorful base on your marshmallow pop!
- Add chocolate chips, M&Ms, or crushed cookies as another topping on your marshmallow pops!
- With a little parental guidance, making marshmallow pops can be a super fun birthday party activity for kids to participate in!
